PM's Photo Won't Be On Vaccine Certificates In 5 States Going To Polls: Sources

India has been trying to speed up vaccination amid surge in cases.

New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photo won’t be on vaccine certificates in five states going to vote in the February-March elections, sources have said. Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Manipur, Uttarakhand, and Goa will vote next month between February 10 and March 7; the results will be out on March 10.

“The Health Ministry will apply necessary filters on CoWIN platform to exclude the picture of (the) Prime Minister from COVID-19 certificates being given to people in five poll-bound states because of the Model Code of Conduct coming into force,” an official said.

Similar measures were taken last year when several states, including West Bengal, and Tamil Nadu, were going to vote amid complaints by the opposition.
